Rendezvous Street has held a succession of licensed names. Dover-Kent lists Bar 24 and Stones Bar at No. 24, the Beer Shop at No. 32, and Fitzpatricks on the street. At the top of the High Street, facing Rendezvous Street, the older Rendezvous Hotel opened in 1866 as a luncheon bar and public house; its licensed history ran into the early twentieth century.

Having been refused entry at the lower end of the street, the Bear proceeded uphill announcing himself at each doorway as “the entertainment from next door.” At one premises he was believed for nearly forty seconds, a local record.
At the third doorway he argued with a doorman about whether standing outside constituted a residency. The discussion remained civil but theatrical. The Bear sang the opening of Widecombe Fair to demonstrate his range, then asked the pavement for one more encore.

Four cameras allegedly caught the progress. Their clocks disagreed by eleven minutes, allowing the Bear to appear to travel backwards up the street. The compilation disc labelled RENDEZVOUS BEAR — MASTER cannot now be read.
